Mr. Kenyon Scott, Organist and Choirmaster
The musical life of Emmanuel is led by Mr. Kenyon Scott, Organist and Choirmaster. Kenyon returned to Emmanuel in September 2016, having previously served the parish in the same capacity from 1996 through 2011. Mr. Scott began music study at age four, studied organ under Wesley McCune, and accepted his first position as a church organist at the age of 14.
A native of Pittsylvania County, Mr. Scott received a bachelor’s degree in history, as well as an M. Ed., from the University of Virginia where he also served as a continuo player (on both organ and harpsichord) for the school’s Collegium Musicum.
Although not a concert musician, Mr. Scott has organized and played a number of musical programs during his tenure at Emmanuel, including performances for the Pittsylvania Historical Society, the annual Christmas in Historic Chatham festivities, and a full-length recital on the Moller organ at Chatham Presbyterian Church.
Mr. Scott is principally employed as a school administrator with Pittsylvania County Schools.
